Black and Mexican conflict in Compton and Los Angeles
All that history and all that work that the Black Panthers and Brown Berets put in was for nothing?
I lived in Compton '77-'87. Bilingual education meant Latino and Black children being taught English and Spanish in the same classroom. As a matter of fact, there was no "Latino" or "Hispanic". It was all about Chicano pride.
There was respect and knowledge of who and what the real enemy was. As far as resources, I saw my parents and the other adults on the block share what they had and look out for each other--Chicano, Black, Belizean, and Samoan.
This new wave of hate disgusts me. The willing ignorance of this generation of gangsters (with no code of honor), on both sides, is a disgrace to all of our ancestors.
If any of these people killing and loathing each other took time out to look at the historical relationship between Africans and the indigenous people (who would rather ally themselves with their European conquerors), they would redirect their eskewed energies into liberation.

Heaton, K Sec. 4031-If Dr. King was still alive his heart would ache with grievance, just knowing that all his work and dreams are being destroyed by violents.
I lived in Compton over 20 years and I came into violents on both sides of the block. I remember when I attended Centennial High School, there was a riot on the campus between the bloods and crips (the same race) fighting over territory.
It's to many parents crying over their child being killed due to gang violents.
The video touch on the true story of what is going on in our city.
I put blame on the parents for their children growing up the manner that they are. It says in the bible train up your child on the way you want him to grow and he will not depart from it. That goes for all the races.
Parents today are afraid of their children because the law have a hold on them were they can not discipline their kids without going to jail.
These young people are angry because no-one loves them enough to say stop and put that gun down, violents does not solve anything.
There should be more men in the home to help raise these kids instead of leaving them at home with the mother.
Inclusion, the article and video make you think of where is this world headed in the future. We need to take a stand and put an end to the madness. Bring back Dr. King's dreams.
its unfortunate but true their is a lot young man and young women taking their lives away just because of the race or maybe because the way somebody looked at them.
But all this goes back to the foundation of their lives, their home, their parents. They probably needed to hear over and over how much they are loved and needed?
I lived in south central L.A. basically all my life and it is really outrages and disturbing how people get killed, in front of their own homes and retalliantion of the hoods are worse because they dont think straight they think with hate and anger and a itchy trigger finger just ready to kill, they dont care who they kill as long as they kill.
And the people who end up sufforing is those persons who go on with their lives minding their own bussines trying to make ins meet.

Watching this video only makes me more aware of the stupidity of our youth, of how we can not come together and fight as one towards the bigger enemy, but yet we fight each other. It becomes difficult to come together when we resent each and blacks, whites, and mexicans. How do we expect to end these constant feuding and fighting? We need stop using our fist and start using our mouth to talk about the issues that are persisting in our lives. Because fighting turns into death, and dead people can not resolve anything except be examples of the constant stupidity that persit between these gangs. Who will speak up and end this violence? Who will stand out amongst their friends and become that trendsetter? We must make a chnge for the future or we will have no future.
It is depressing to see and hear all these negative thoughts and acts that are directed to us, the human race. When I started taking Chicana/Chicano Studies, I had a greater pain in my heart because of the things that are being done to one another. It saddens me that people don’t realize in what society we are living in. The government is corrupted and even we, the so called homosapiens are too. The history, well the history even saddens me more…..people tend to ignore the past and commit the same acts towards one another.
Last weekend I went to Trader Joe's and I asked for a price check and the cashier had the nerve to imply to the manager that I was probably making it up. This shows how race comes into play. No wonder hatred tends to live within us, but only those who persevere will conquer.

I went to Locke High School and that is nothing new to me. Today’s generation of unruly youth stems from a lack of resources, education, and discipline. There are too many people walking around in inner-city neighborhoods with nothing to do. The students don’t want to go to school because they aren’t being inspired there. The schools in these neighborhoods cannot provide the proper resources and instruction to the students because there are so many staff and administrators that don’t care or have given up. There are less people trying to make a difference and utilize what is available than there are people complaining. Then the students take it home or to the streets, and instead of their parents solving the problem, they instigate it and that’s how it becomes an even greater problem for society.

It is very sad to see that young people in our communities have hatred to another race just to show their pride of their manhood. They don’t seem to see or care that innocent people are getting hurt. These gang related people want to show off their pride they have towards their race and in the process they also want to show how tough their race can be. I can say that I know a lot about the videos that were shown. On the first one, my cousin actually attended the school and was thrown a glass bottle at her head, and for the second video my co-worker’s boyfriend was one of the young men that started the fights that day. It is sad to see minorities fighting with one another instead of trying to help one another.
It’s ashamed how we treat each other nowadays. Throughout history, African Americans and Hispanics had fought for civil rights and won. Until today, we all still try to get our voices across for an improvement on our civil rights because there’s always room for improvements. It’s very hard for people to understand what we are fighting for or take us seriously when we, “The one who’s asking to be heard” cannot even unite. We complain when we are downgraded and that they think of us as an animal but, we have no one to blame but ourselves. We say, “Racial profiling” but, it’s true that it only takes that one percent for people to give us a negative look which is extremely difficult to erase.
