MONTHLY POSITIONINFORMATIONUnder general supervision, performs a variety of general office duties in support of an organizational unit; provides assistance to the public and staff in person and by telephone.
ESSENTIAL JOBFUNCTIONS
Prepares, arranges, and types routine documents and forms such as reports, letters, vouchers, receipts, lists, orders, schedules, notices, file cards, statistical data and certified copies of documents from plain and corrected copy, rough draft, or from verbal instructions; waits on the public or acts as a receptionist in a small office; answers routine inquiries in person or by telephone; indexes, codes and cross-references records or files according to established procedures; does all types of filing (alphabetical, numerical, chronological and code) and pulls and charges out file material; sorts and arranges documents or correspondence in alphabetical or numerical order; makes routine checks of clerical work for compliance with specific requirements of form and content; posts data, keeps records and prepares reports in accordance with predetermined forms and procedures; makes out bills, orders, notes, receipts, permits, licenses, etc; operates various office machines or equipment requiring little specialized training, such as personal computers, photocopiers, facsimile machines, calculators, printers, scanners, electronic typewriters, etc. to input data, produce documents and forms or perform computations; makes routine adjustments through telephone calls or interdepartmental memos; opens, sorts, time stamps and routes incoming mail; stuffs, seals, stamps, meters and registers outgoing mail; collects and delivers correspondence, records, packages, etc., and regular messenger rounds upon request; does comparing and proofreading of documents and searches records and files for data; computes and receives fees when the amount is not in question or is readily obtainable from fixed schedules; requisitions, receives and charges out supplies; operates a small telephone switchboard.

No experience is required.TYPEWRITING SKILL: Ability to type at the rate of 40 net words per minute. Physical Class: 2 - Light:Light physical effort which may include occasional light lifting to a 10 pound limit, and some bending, stooping or squatting. Considerable walking may be involved.

VACANCYINFORMATION
The eligible register resulting from this examination will be used to fill vacancies throughout Los Angeles County as they occur.
EXAMINATIONCONTENT
This examination will consist of two (2) parts:
- Part 1: A written Office Assistant Test weighted 100%, which consists of filing ability, customer service, office practices and procedures, written expression, basic mathematics, data analysis and interpretation and reading comprehension.
- Part 2: A qualifying typing performance test.Only those candidates who achieve a passing score of 70% or higher on the written test will proceed to the typing performance test.A performance test of 40 net words per minute will be administered to candidates who successfully pass the written portion of this examination.
Candidates will be allowed up to three (3) attempts to pass the typing performance test within twelve (12) months from the date of their written test. In order for candidates to receive a second and/or third opportunity, candidates MUST type a mininum of 30 net words per minute on their first typing performance test. Candidates who score below 30 net words per minute will not continue in the exam process and will have to wait twelve (12) months from the date of their written test to reapply. Successful candidates will receive a typing certificate which may be used in future examinations that require a typing test.
The following candidates are not required to take the County typing test:
Those candidates who currently hold or have held a typing position in the service of the County of Los Angeles within the last five (5) years.
OR
Those candidates who have taken and passed a Los Angeles County typing performance test at 40 net words per minute administered by a County department. Passing scores on record (for the past five (5) years) with the Department of Human Resources will be automatically transferred. Applicants who have met the typing requirement in another department must attach a copy of their typing certificate to their application. Only certificates issued within the last five (5) years by a Los Angeles County Department and the Department of Human Resources will be accepted.
Candidates must achieve an overall passing score of 70% or higher on the exam in order to be placed on the eligible register.NOTE: Successful candidates will be placed on the eligible register for a period of twelve (12) months AND MAY NOT REAPPLY DURING THIS PERIOD. After this period of eligibility, candidates may file a new application and extend their WRITTEN TEST scores for an additional twelve (12) months by advising the exam unit staff at time of filing. Candidates also have the option of retaking the written test; however, THE LAST TEST SCORE WILL APPLY. Candidates may not take the Office Assistant Test more than once in a twelve (12) month period. As a result, candidates who within a twelve (12) month period have taken the Office Assistant Test for another clerical examination will have their written scores automatically transferred to this examination.THE WRITTEN TEST IS NOT REVIEWABLE BY CANDIDATES PER CIVIL SERVICE RULE 7.19.NOTE: No written scores will be transferred from the CA-2004 exam, this includes written exam scores from Intermediate Clerk, R1138F; Intermediate Clerk (North County), R1138I; Typist Clerk, 2212D; Intermediate Typist Clerk, R2214E; and Intermediate Typist Clerk (North County), R2214F.

This is very helpful to have these particular job opportunities on-line I wish I would have looked here before. I don't feel qualified for any of these but, I will keep looking to see what ya' got, because I have not looked at all of them. I am sure they are old seeming how I have not been here since I left my very first post months ago. I did see the youtube video of your son who is adorable he's four right! My son is still running around doing the same thing and he's six years old now. I love when their that little and someone else's makes it easier to enjoy them. I am in the process of having my tubes tied so that I can enjoy my son growing up with less worry and he'll have plenty of company because his father apparently wants to populate California entirely by himself with help from every woman in his view!I think I've said a mouthful already no so choi'!
